প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীরা, আজ তোমাদের ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয়পত্র বিষয়ের ৫ নং প্রশ্ন Narrative Style-এর ওপর কিছু Exercise দেয়া হল। আগে নিজে চেষ্টা করে পরে উত্তর মিলিয়ে দেখ।

Change the narrative style of the following text.

Exercise-6

'Why are you putting up the food in your pocket, sir? Why don't you eat?' said the noble-man. 'I am doing the right thing. My dress deserves these rich dishes,' replied Sheikh Sa'adi. 'I do not understand what you mean to say,' said the nobleman. 'And I'm sorry.'

Answer: The nobleman asked Sheikh Sa'adi with respect why he was putting up the food in his pocket and also asked why he did not eat. Sheikh Sa'adi replied that he was doing the right thing and added that his dress deserved those rich dishes. Then the nobleman said that he did not understand what he (s) meant to say and added that he was sorry.

Exercise-7

'I came here yesterday from my village,' he said. 'Why did you come?' I asked. 'My mother sent me to you with this letter.' 'How is your mother? I have not seen her for a long time. I hope she is quite well.'

Answer: He told me that he had come there/here the previous day. I asked him why he had come. He replied that his mother had sent him to me with that letter. I asked him hwo his mother was and said that I had not seen her for a long time. I hoped that she was quite well.

Exercise-8

Zaman said to me, 'Have you finished reading the book I gave you yesterday?' 'Yes, I have finished reading the book,' I replied. 'What an interesting book it is! I wish I would borrwo the book earlier!' I said. 'Will you return the book today?' he asked.

Answer: Zaman asked me if I had finished the book he had given me the previous day. I replied in the affirmative and said that I had finished reading the book. I exclaimed with wonder that it was a very interesting book and wished that I would borrwo the book earlier. He then asked me if I would return the book that day.

Exercise-9

'Good morning, students,' said the teacher. 'How are you?' 'We are fine, sir. What about you?' 'I am fine too. Please, sit down.' 'How you prepared your lesson?' the teacher asked. 'Sorry, sir, we have not prepared our lesson' they replied.

Answer: The teacher wished the students good morning and asked them hwo they were. The students respectfully replied that they were fine and asked the teacher hwo he was. The teacher replied that he was fine too and told them to sit down. Then he asked them if they had prepared their lesson. They sorrowfully/sadly replied with respect that they had not prepared their lesson.

Exercise-10

'Konica, have you done your English lesson today?' asked the teacher. 'Yes, sir,' she replied. 'But I have not understood one grammatical point.' The teacher assured her saying, 'Come to my room, I will help you understand the point.' 'Thank you, sir,' she smilingly said.

Answer: The teacher asked Konica if she had done her English lesson that day. She respectfully replied in the affirmative and said that she had not understood one grammatical point. The teacher assured her telling her to go to his room. He again said that he would help her understand the point. She smilingly thanked him respectfully.

Exercise-11

Once a rich banker said to a poor cobbler, 'How much do you earn a year?' The cobbler replied laughing, 'I never count in this way. I earn barely enough to pass a day. And I'm happy.' 'Are you really happy?' said the banker.

Answer: Once a rich banker asked a poor cobbler how much he (c) earned a year. The cobbler replied laughing that he (c) never counted in that way. He (c) also added that he (c) earned barely enough to pass a day and he (c) was happy. Then the banker asked him (c) if he (c) was really happy.

Exercise-12

The teacher said to the student, 'Have you prepared your lesson today?' 'No, sir,' replied the student. The teacher said, 'Why?' 'I was suffering from headache yesterday. I shall do my work tomorrow,' said the student.

Answer: The teacher asked the student if he (s) had prepared his lesson that day. The student respectfully replied in the negative and said that he hadn't. The teacher asked again why he (s) had not prepared his lesson. The student replied that he (s) had been suffering from headache the previous day. He (s) added that he (s) would do his (s) work the next day.
