Narration/Speech

Change the narrative style of the following text :

(1) ‘‘Stop. You are eating all our bread,’’ shouted the two rats. ‘‘I am doing my best but I’ve told you it’s difficult,’’ said the monkey. ‘‘Give us that little piece,’’ said the rats. ‘‘This is my piece. Haven’t I done a lot of work for you?’’ replied the monkey. ‘‘How foolish we are believing you!’’ said the rats.

Answer: The two rats shouted at the monkey to stop and told that he (monkey) was eating all their bread. The monkey told that he was doing his best but he had told them it was difficult. The rats told him (monkey) to give them that little piece. The monkey replied that it was his piece and asked them if he had not done a lot of work for them. The rats exclaimed with grief that they were extremely foolish believing him (monkey).

(2) ‘‘Hellow, I’m John Matthew’’ said the officer. ‘‘Hellow, I’ve been referred to you because I’m enquiring about the course that you run. I’d like to find out a bit more about them,’’ said the student. ‘‘We run a few different courses for students who are both undergraduate and postgraduate. Are you an undergraduate or a postgraduate? Arts or Science?’’ said the officer. ‘‘Undergraduate, and I’am in the Business Faculty,’’ replied the student.

Answer: Greeting the student, the officer told that he was John Matthew. Greeting back the officer, the student told that he had been referred to him (O) because he (S) was enquiring about the course that they run. He (S) again told that he would like to find out a bit more about them. The officer told that they run few different courses for students who are both undergraduate and post graduate. He (O) asked him (S) if he was an undergraduate or a post graduate and if he (S) was Arts or sciences. The student replied that he (S) was an undergraduate and he was in the Business Faculty.

(3) ‘‘Poor little creature! Your whole life consists only of a single day,’’ said the oak tree to the fly. ‘‘Still everything around me is so wonderfully bright and warm, and beautiful, that it makes me joyous. You may have thousands of days, but I have thousands of moments in which I can be merry and happy. Does all the beauty of the world cease when you die?’’ ‘‘No’’, replied the tree, ‘‘it will certainly last much longer.’’

Answer: Addressing the fly as poor little creature, the oak tree told that its whole life consists only of a single day. The fly told the oak tree that everything around it was so wonderfully bright and warm and beautiful that it made it joyous. It told the oak tree that it (oak tree) might have thousands of days but it (fly) had thousands of moments in which it (fly) could be merry and happy. The fly asked the oak tree if all the beauty of the world ceased when it (oak tree) died. The tree replied in the negative and said that it (beauty) would certainly last much longer.

(4) ‘‘What is your occupation?’’ asked the King. ‘‘I do not work at all’’, said the stranger. ‘‘I wander about God’s kingdom and wherever He places me, there I remain for the day.’’ Seeing the stranger’s trust in God, the king felt kindly towards him and said, ‘‘Will you come and live in my palace?’’ The stranger asked, ‘‘What I shall do there?’’ ‘‘You’ll water my trees and flower and in exchange you will get food and clothing’, said the king.

Answer: The king asked the stranger what his occupation was. The stranger replied/answered that he did not work at all. He (S) further told that he wandered about God’s kingdom and wherever He placed him (S), there he (S) remained for the day. Seeing the strangerÕs trust in †od, the king felt kindly towards him and asked if he (S) would come and live in his (k) palace. The stranger asked what he would do there. The king replied that he (S) would water his (K) trees and flowers and in exchange he (S) would get food and clothing.

(5) Puja said to Nipa, ‘‘Why are you late for college every day?’’ ‘‘I cannot get up early in the morning, so I don’t have enough time to be ready for college,’’ she said. ‘‘How lazy you are!’’ said Puja.’’ Let me speak the truth. If you do not change your habit, you will be a cause of sorrows of your parents. So give up this bad habit immediately.

Answer: Puja asked Nipa why she (N) was late for college every day. Nipa replied that she could not get up early in the morning and so she (N) didn’t have enough time to be ready for college. Puja exclaimed with wonder that she (N) was extremely lazy. Puja told her (N) that she might speak the truth. She (P) said that if she (N) did not change her habit, she (N) would be the cause of sorrows of her parents. She (P) advised her (N) to give up that bad habit immediately.
