Narration/Speech

(1) Change the narrative style of the following text :

Puja said to Nipa, 'Why are you late for college every day?' 'I cannot get up early in the morning, so I don't have enough time to be ready for college,' she said. 'How lazy you are!' said Puja.Let me speak the truth. If you do not change your habit, you will be a cause of sorrows of your parents. So give up this bad habit immediately.

Answer: Puja asked Nipa why she (N) was late for college every day. Nipa replied that she could not get up early in the morning and so she (N) didn't have enough time to be ready for college. Puja exclaimed with wonder that she (N) was extremely lazy. Puja told her (N) that she might speak the truth. She (P) said that if she (N) did not change her habit, she (N) would be the cause of sorrows of her parents. She (P) advised her (N) to give up that bad habit immediately.

(2) Change the narrative style of the following text :

'Please, let me have the coffin,' he cried, 'I will pay you well for it.' 'We would not sell it for the world,' one of the dwarfs said. 'But I canÕt stay without Snwo White,' sighed the prince. So, the dwarfs took pity on the prince and said, 'Take Snow White.'

Answer: The prince cried and requested the dwarfs to let him have the coffin. He added that he would pay them well for it. One of the dwarfs replied that they would not sell it for the world. The prince sighed and told the dwarfs that he could not stay without Snow White. So the dwarfs took pity on the prince and told him to take Snow White.

(3) Change the narrative style of the following text :

'I'm not in the least hungry,' my guest sighed, 'but if you insist I don't mind having some asparagus.'

I ordered them.

'Aren't you going to have any?'

'No, I never eat asparagus.'

'I know there are people who don't like them. The fact is, you ruin your palate by all meat you eat.'

Answer: My guest sighed and told that she was not in the least hungry but if I insisted she didn't mind having some asparagus. I ordered them. She asked if I wasn't going to have any. I denied and told that I never eat asparagus. The guest said that she knew there were people who didn't like those. She also added that the fact was, I ruined my palate by all meat I ate.

(4) Change the narrative style of the following text :

Once I said to a little girl, 'Where do you live?

She stared at me for a moment and said, 'Why do you want to know?'

'Just curiosity,' I replied, 'But why are you gaping at me?'

'Just curiosity,' was her prompt reply.

Answer: Once I asked a little girl where she lived. She stared at me for a moment and asked me why I wanted to know. I replied that it was just for curiosity. But I asked her why she was gaping at me. Her prompt reply was that it was just for curiosity.

(5) Change the narrative style of the following text :

'You know, there's one thing I thoroughly believe in, 'she said, as she ate the ice cream. 'One should always get up from a meal feeling one could eat a little more.'

'Are you still hungry?' I asked faintly.

'Oh, no, I'm not hungry; you see I don't eat luncheon.'

'Oh, I see!'

Answer: As she ate the ice cream, she told the writer curiously that there was one thing she thoroughly believed in. She added that one should always get up from a meal feeling one could eat a little more. I (writer) asked her faintly if she was still hungry. She denied confidently and told that she was not hungry and drawing attention she added that she didn't eat luncheon. I expressed my wonder.

(6) Change the narrative style of the following text :

The teacher said to the guardian, 'Your son has failed in two subjects.' 'Please let me know in which subjects my son has failed.' said the guardian.' In English and Mathematics. You have to take care of his studies.' said the teacher. How can I do it? 'Do you have any guideline, sir?' said the guardian.

Answer: The teacher told the guardian that his son had failed in two subjects. The guardian requested the teacher to let him know in which subjects his son had failed. The teacher said that his son had failed in English and Mathematics. He (t) told him (g) that he had to take care of his studies. The guardian asked him (t) how he (g) could do that. The guardian respectfully asked him if he had any guidelines.
